5 Benefits of feeling fearful! (Yes, fear can be beneficial!)

Fear is a strong natural emotion. It is a useful emotion for warning us against danger. The feeling of fearfulness as a result of real danger can prompt us to take action: to “fight or flight”

Feeling fearful is useful in a number of ways

1.)  Feeling fearful can generate our natural fight or flight physiological reaction which can potentially save our and other peoples’ lives. EG: when someone threatens our safety

2.)  It can be a useful and powerful intuitive emotion: Our ”fear” can tell us that we are excited and interested : EG: meeting a new partner

3.)  It can be there to help us as a moral guide; to help us decide what is right and what is wrong. EG: not speeding in fear of being pulled aside by the police.

4.)  Consistently feeling fearful towards something (such as having a phobia of clowns) can prompt us into taking action including curing the phobia and embarking on a self care programme from there.

5.)  Worry as an indicator of fear tells us we care about that thing. For example if we were worried about our health it could it could prompt us to take better care of ourselves, and to consult a doctor should we find an unexplained lump..
